The CAN Router will electronically activate both trailers in a B train configuration rather than just one trailer, which has been the case since Transpecs introduced EBS into the NZ market in 2003. “This provides greater control & stability to the vehicle operator by enhancing the functionality of the combination by 100%.” says John. The CAN Router also provides faster data transmission for truck-trailer combinations with two or more trailers equipped with EBS. This significantly accelerates the transmission of the truck’s electronic braking signals to a trailer’s braking system providing more responsive, effective and safer braking performance. “An added benefit of the CAN router is its ability to automatically display the axle weights from both trailers on to the intelligent dash display in the cab” says John. “An outstanding achievement, this innovative technology builds on WABCO’s unique knowledge and exceptional capabilities in trailer systems, allowing original equipment manufacturers, trailer owners and truck drivers to further improve vehicle and road safety, particularly in view of increasingly heavier demands on professional trailer transport.” “The CAN router simplifies installation for the trailer manufacturer - the connection to the rear trailer is achieved automatically through the CAN router. There is no requirement for any additional junction box thereby eliminating the risks associated with faulty wiring. The bayonet type fittings make the assembly quick & easy to fit.” To find out more contact Transpecs:
“The clear message from experienced transport leaders we met was a focus on ‘value’ and service ‘quality-consistency’ attributes. To me these values opitomise a resilient industry that will continue to be successful in good as well as challenging times” said Jason. “Our mission at the event paired with this very well, with a focus on enhancements to our quality running gear, braking, equipment and hydraulics product offerings.” “At a time when the economy is particularly challenging in most sectors, it’s exciting to be part of an industry that adapts quickly and innovates. Good business is still there to be done if you are tenacious and responsive to your customers’ needs and wants” said Jason. A number of key management changes in transport supplier Transpecs and sister company Palfinger New Zealand epitomises a commitment to the core values that has made the business a success over more than 50 years. “Brian Rose has recently returned to the operation as Transpecs’ regional sales manager for Auckland and Northland and Duncan Phillips – a key driver of the Palfinger brand in New Zealand – has also returned, to the role of Palfinger NZ national manager” said Jason. “We value experience, integrity and consistency, how that will take us forward and how important that is to passing on these values to existing and future generations in our business.” The Expo, held at Mystery Creek was attended by over 13,000 in early March 2009. The attendance was exceptionally good with major industry people either attending as visitors or exhibitors at the event. Pictured Top: Pictured Bottom:
Transpecs O.E. Braking products specialist, John Hirst, says SmartBoard can be added to the Trailer EBS modulator to provide the fleet manager or driver with a real-time status overview of the braking system and its components. “All information on the trailer’s running conditions is captured by the advanced Operating Data Recorder (ODR) and can be monitored per trip (SmartBoard) as well as over the vehicle lifetime (PC diagnostics),” says Hirst. The icon orientated display allows easy and simple handling. “SmartBoard displays mileage, axle load, lining wear, and tire conditions,” he continued. “A warning lamp informs the driver about dangers such as a lack of tire pressure or overload. Combined with Electronically Controlled Air Suspension (ECAS), SmartBoard also serves as a control box for lifting and lowering the chassis and for the lift axle.” SMARTBOARD FEATURES: To find out more about WABCO SmartBoard, contact your local Transpecs' Brake Specialist.
